Background
Domestic abuse is now more prevalent than ever. Because of Covid-19 restrictions, women and children have been forced to stay home with their abuser meaning that domestic killings doubled over the summer lockdown. To help with this increased demand, Refuge needs donations to help support the women and children who are facing domestic abuse this winter.
Idea
A simple, iconic videocall background – The Background of Support – features a powerful statistic of the abuse suffered by women, contextualised to the minutes spent on videocalls. This background can be downloaded and used by anyone on videocall services to show their support for Refuge. It also has a donation mechanic, prompting users to give a small sum using a QR code that people can scan with their phones. With just a simple image thousands of everyday people can be turned into advocates and fundraisers for Refuge.
