Background
2019 marked the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, the birth of the Pride movement. BBDO Minneapolis wanted to celebrate this big occasion by creating something that would engage our local community leading up to The Twin Cities Pride Festival. The task was to do something beyond a passive social post, and it had to be done with a very tiny budget.
@mows510 is an American street artist who makes tiny doors and places them on buildings, trees and other structures. Each door is wonderfully diverse and welcoming to all. That’s the same spirit of Pride.
Idea
2019 was the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, the birth of the Pride movement. To mark this big occasion, BBDO Minneapolis handcrafted 50 Tiny Pride Flags and anonymously planted them guerilla style on @mows510 doors leading up to The Twin Cities Pride Festival. The sudden appearance of Pride flags as Twin Cities Pride was about to begin made these doors even more popular to photograph for social media. @mows510 himself delightfully discovered and shared the flags with all of his followers. On the day of the Pride festival, their identity was revealed in a video. @Mows510 loved it so much that he shared the video with his own followers. It became his most liked Instagram post of 2019. And these tiny flags created a big swell of Pride.
