Background

Burger King teamed up with legendary UK rap artist, Tinie, to offer a bespoke virtual performance of the maestro’s summer anthem ‘Whoppa… on a Whopper®’.

Burger King® UK customers could scan a special QR code on their Whopper® which generated a miniature of Tinie, performing his latest hit ‘Whoppa’ on a stage of the iconic burger.

Idea

The miniature concert, created by BBH and produced in collaboration with Dimension Studios, was believed to be the smallest gig ever, and was the closest many people in the UK came to a live performance since March this year, when all festivals and shows were cancelled.

Our Thoughts

Packaging is still a comparatively unexplored frontier for brands. It’s media they own but few seem to do much with it. The problem has been that all too often the content within the QR code (or whatever) has been poor.

As a result, expectations have been low. But I am assured by a representative of Gen Z that this AR Tinie is actually quite cool. More examples like this might inspire other brands to turn their packs into a stage, a screen or a concert to engage with their customers.
