Background
Brightbook is a completely new way of doing your books. It's fun, free and it's easy to use.
In 2009, facing a long, dull day dealing with the quarterly VAT returns, Warwick Leicester and James Henderson wondered if there wasn’t a simpler way of doing the accounts.
Other software solutions had seemed complicated and expensive.
The result was Brightbook, a free-to-use, simple online book-keeping service - mybrightbook.com
Since then, Brightbook has grown massively, particularly in the creative industries where, despite no marketing, it has attracted many thousands of users and fans.
Idea
The idea that Brightbook has made accounting so much more pleasurable inspired XXX Accounting. This is a Babestation-like channel for people with an accounting fetish. (Babestation is where girls entice viewers to ring a premium rate number to talk about what turns them on.) In this instance, though, the hosts talk suggestively about pencil sharpeners and paper clips.
XXXAccounting presents accounting as a fun and sexy experience, the exact opposite of what we usually believe it to be.
The videos were designed to get the Brightbook name out there, to get more users and to make people think differently about accounting.
Results
So far there have been 7,000 unique views on video-sharing platforms including YouTube, Vimeo and Funny or Die (Carol was rated 79% funny on Funny or Die). This resulted in 23,000 unique visits to the website in the following two months and a 300% increase in new signups over the same period.

Our Thoughts
It would have been difficult, even embarrassing, to turn down an idea from the people who have re-designed Directory’s website so magisterially. Fortunately, the parodies of those sex-chat sites are funny as well as proving to be very successful.
I have had a look at the site and it really is a brilliant way of saving yourself both hassle and accountants’ fees. Personally, though, while I know I should sign up, I would still rather just hand the whole damn mess of my quarterly accounts over to the saintly Vicky to sort it all for me.
