Background

Over 65% of people who excel in art or design have dyslexia. It’s not an obstacle, it’s a bonus as it often goes hand-in-hand with connective thinking and the ability to grasp the bigger picture. Skills that Happiness believes are crucial to its open post for a graphic designer. As an agency called Happiness, they believe happiness is the ultimate rebellion—against negativities, against impossibilities. You can always choose to see the problem or you can choose to see the opportunity. They always choose the latter. And that's what the agency is doing when it comes to dyslexia.

Idea

To target designers, the places where you can easily find them were used: design inspiration sites. But to be sure they were designers with dyslexia, versions of all these popular design inspiration sites were intentionally misspelled. And all the site URL’s were rewritten in many dyslexic ways. For example Behance becomes behaans.com, behenc.com, behense.com, behens.com. This Is Colossal becomes tishiscolossal.com or thisiskolossal.com, thisiscalossal.com, tishiscolossal.com, tisiscolossal.com, thisiscolossale.com, thisiscollassal.com, thisiscollasal.com, thisiskollasal.com, thisiskolosal.com, … You get the idea.¬ Those URLs lead them to the agency’s recruitment note.

Results

Hundreds of applications from dyslectic designers all over the world were received. But more importantly, the discussion was opened that having dyslexia isn’t a negative. It’s a plus. So besides applications, there were also plenty of reactions of people with dyslexia or parents with dyslexic children. Thanking them that they finally had the feeling dyslexia is a superpower, and doesn’t necessarily mean it holds them back in what they want to accomplish.

Two excellent designers were hired, one in Happiness Brussels and one in Saigon.

If they ever need a freelancer, they now have a full database of great designers to contact.
