Background
Dr. Miang Mental Maths School was a small chain of schools teaching maths to children. A new branch was opening in the village of Sammakon and Dr. Miang wanted to promote the brand as well as the course.
The budget was the challenge. How to get the school talked about when money was tight?
Idea
The students of Dr. Miang’s Mental Maths' schools can calculate as fast and as efficiently as a calculator.
The idea was to demonstrate how fast and how efficiently by placing students next to the cashier in local supermarkets. They calculated the total cost to the shopper of each basket, which the cashier could then double-check on the till.
These ‘kidculators’ showed parents how clever at maths their own children could become.
As they left the supermarket, a poster gave details of the school and the free trial one-hour class it was offering for a limited period.
Results
30 children were involved over one weekend. Between them they gave out 2,470 brochures leading to 108 new registrations at the school.
Our Thoughts
The best advertisement for any school is its pupils. And this charming idea takes the cliché and brings it to life, literally.
You can’t beat a good demo and what the thirty students demonstrated was a grasp of arithmetic I for one could not match. I tried! If there was a Dr. Miang school in Kent, I would sign up.
