Background
Lotsenhaus was a meeting place at Hamburg Leuchtfeuer hospice, where people could find the space and the time to make their last goodbyes and start to try to come to terms with their grief.
It was a place of deep feelings and of memories.
Idea
The death of someone you know has always been extremely distressing, for young people in particular. Because they find it hard to deal with grief and sorrow, Lotsenhaus wanted to find a way to help them express some of their emotions.
‘Sky of Memories’ was a smartphone app, which transformed the sky into a place of remembrance, where users could leave messages via augmented reality both to and about those who had passed away.
Linking to Google Maps locations it remembers exactly where you left your message.
You could search other locations to find messages left there by people from all around the world.
Our Thoughts
The mobile phone becomes increasingly sophisticated and increasingly important. In India more people access the internet from a hand-held device than from a PC.
It is soon going to replace the wallet in your pocket. You’ll tap and pay for items that were brought to your attention by a GPS-activated text message. But you’ll also be consuming more video on the move than ever before, as the Buzzman MTV campaign on p xx demonstrates.
What I like about this is that while we use the mobile mostly to connect with other people, this is an instance of it being able to deliver very quiet and very personal experiences. This is an app that allows you to talk to yourself.
