Background
Runtime is the first running podcast that you can only listen to while you are running yourself. As the leading Swiss sports retailer, OCHSNER SPORT wants to encourage the people of Switzerland to take up running – and is using the surge in interest in podcasts to reach people.
Idea
Data is analysed live.
The app developed for this purpose uses GPS and sensor data to determine whether the user is currently running. It analyses and records the user’s steps and determines the current speed. In this running mode, Runtime knows in real time whether the user is running. If you stop, playback pauses, and you are encouraged to start running again. Once you have finished an episode, you can listen to it again at any time using the Rewind Player function.

Runtime consists of twelve episodes in which European marathon champion Viktor Röthlin and presenter and runner Marc Jäggi go on a run with the user. Switzerland’s most successful marathon runner, Maja Neuenschwander, and Olympic triathlon champion Nicola Spirig-Hug appear as well. The podcast is just as much fun for a newcomer to running as it is for an experienced runner. For example, if you choose the category “Viktor in your ear”, the European champion will coach you live during the run. The episodes cover a wide array of running topics, ranging from correct posture and the various running styles and equipment to the big marathon episode.
Running becomes a game.
The users get fitter and fitter with each episode, so the episodes get longer and longer to keep up. To increase motivation even further, each completed episode unlocks a reward on the Success Screen, which can then be redeemed at OCHSNER SPORT online or in the store. On this basis, you make your way through the episodes intuitively and playfully as you unlock rewards and increase your fitness bit by bit, one run after the other. You can also directly share the runs you complete with your friends and followers on social media. If you complete the twelfth and final podcast, the marathon episode, you will be entered in the drawing to win the secret grand prize.
The Runtime app is now available in the Swiss Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The promotional video is being launched with a sports influencer campaign and can be viewed in a variety of different online formats. The app will be promoted with a performance campaign online, on social media and on Spotify, as well as at physical points of sale.
