Background

Faced with all the news about the financial crisis, the high number of people out of work, the increased consumption of antidepressants and so on, a team of people in the agency decided Spain needed some extra motivation.

Idea

Motivator was an iPhone app which gave its users access to rousing speeches accompanied by epic music, all the motivation they could handle to be able to cope with everyday life. The app was launched on iOS and a promotion campaign was launched in online media and on radio.

Results

The application, designed to promote Tiempo BBDO, was reported in a large number of media outlets and blogs. It was extremely well received by the agency’s clients and the advertising sector in general. In just two days it went to No. 1 at the App Store and in 2 two weeks it had been downloaded by over 100,000 people.

Our Thoughts

It’s a constant source of interest to me that ad agencies so seldom use advertising on their own behalf. The Christmas card is sometimes regarded as an opportunity for the agency to show off what it can do. In this recession, agencies really should be trying to talk about what advertising can do for brands. So it’s heartening to see that someone at Tiempo BBDO has a sense of humour and that the agency backed it with the app and a PR campaign.
