Background

Most people understand the extreme later stages of Alzheimer’s but many don’t understand the early signs and symptoms, which mean many sufferers and those close to them go without support for longer than necessary. Alzheimer’s New Zealand offers a network of support to those suffering from all stages of dementia and wanted New Zealand to know that this resource was available.

Idea

Opinion formers in parliament and in the media were both mailed and given rubbers which doubled as USB sticks so that when it came to applying for funding or seeking donations they would be aware of  the work Alzheimer’s New Zealand does within the community.

Not known.

Our Thoughts

I love the way this embodies both the problem of Alzheimer’s (in the rubber, which erases the memories of victims) and the solution (in the memory stick, where I am presuming you would find a folder full of information about Alzheimer’s NZ and its work.)

Most giveaways in most mailshots are completely useless. I was sent a balloon last week by a company talking to me about ‘inflation’. I can’t remember who they were or why they were talking to me.

This giveaway, by contrast, is so useful almost every recipient would keep it and in keeping it, of course, they will be reminded of Alzheimer’s New Zealand every time they use it.
