Background

A Bongo is an escape bond: it’s a beautiful box which includes a voucher to enjoy an exciting experience… flying on a hot air balloon, a massage, a trip to Paris. There are over a dozen different Bongos and each one allows you to choose between over 20 different experiences to give to a friend or to yourself. Bongo asked for a low budget campaign which would get people talking about the brand and jumpstart their sales going into the Christmas season.

Idea

Weekendesk Iberia gave a 10% discount on their Christmas orders of Bongos to all companies who agreed to take part in the activity. The campaign was simple: when their employees got to their workplaces, they found the Escape key on their desktop computers had been covered by a sticker with Bongo’s logo. When pressed, it opened up the Bongo website, showing the viewer a highlighted banner which offered a 10% discount. The campaign took place on a Friday and the invitation was clear: if you don’t have any plans for the weekend, Bongo offers an immediate opportunity to escape and have some fun.

Results

96% of the 1,738 recipients hit ESCAPE and 22% of them bought a Bongo, generating sales worth over €33,000 that same weekend. It was very simple but intelligent and fun – a match with the brand’s values. And at a very low cost.

Our Thoughts

Sometimes the best ideas come from the biggest problems and few problems are bigger than a tiny budget. Here, the agency had what looks like a tiny idea but the ROI speaks for itself, an additional 33 grand to the company’s turnover in one day. It’s classic direct marketing – starting with the question, who are we talking to? Then setting about getting in front of those people in any way possible. Everything is media these days – including the keypad of your PC.
