Background

M&C Saatchi Auckland decided to throw a party to celebrate the refurbishment of their offices. For over two months, the agency had been unable to host any meetings so it was a way of saying thank you to clients as well as creating a sense of excitement about the renovations.

Idea

The idea was to send out bits of the old agency offices, which had been demolished, along with the line ‘This is the last you’ll ever see of our old offices’ and an invitation to the event. Old light-fittings, ceiling tiles, bits of carpet, curtain rails and even parts of the old air-conditioning system were used.

Results

Fantastic. 35 invitations were mailed out and 50 clients turned up. The party was scheduled to finish at 7pm but the last client didn’t get into a taxi until 1am, which is when the agency really kicked on.

Our Thoughts

Yes, yes, we all know the self-promotion is an open brief but sometimes it’s also the toughest brief. The team at M&C Saatchi NZ have hit upon a novel idea for their invitation to the agency re-opening. I’m glad they didn’t try on any bullshit altruism about recycling, instead putting this forward for exactly what it is: a quirky idea that gets to the point without breaking the budget.

P.S. I hate you, Kingy :)
